Probing Probiotics

Our bodies are designed to function best with millions of friendly probiotic bacteria living in our intestinal tract. In the past, we replaced the probiotics in our system by constantly through eating organic vegetables grown in dirt that was rich with soil-based organisms or drinking raw milk straight from the cow. I myself remember walking into the garden, pulling up young carrots, brushing as much dirt off them as possible and eating them on the spot.

Think of the probiotics that were going into my system before I could wash them down the kitchen drain or boil them for 15 to 20 minutes. We need probiotic supplements because there are so many influences that prevent us from getting the probiotics our bodies need.

American report draws unhealthy conclusions on antioxidant supplements

The study on the effectiveness of antioxidant supplements, released yesterday, draws conclusions that do not apply to Australia and is at risk of causing confusion among consumers.

Published in the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA), the study is based on research conducted in countries where vitamins and minerals are not regulated in the same way as they are in Australia, says Dr.Tony Lewis, the Executive Director of the Complementary Healthcare Council of Australia (CHC), the national peak body for the industry.

Vital Greens ORAC Rating

ORAC (Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity) assays tell us how active the antioxidant levels are in a compound. Recently Vital Greens was tested by the Centre for Phytochemistry and Pharmacology at Southern Cross University in Lismore, NSW and was found to have an ORAC value of 3393.7. With the current batch of Vital Greens, a very potent 5:1 concentrate of Wolfberry (Go-ji) is added and the ORAC value has risen to 4047.8." To quote the report:

"Vital Greens was found to have a noteworthy and considerable antioxidant capacity comparing favourably with many fruits and vegetables."
